Penguins' 7th-rounder Mac Swanson tunes out size questions, produces electrifying stats
Mac Swanson knows the question is coming. When you’re a hockey prospect listed at 5-foot-7, 165 pounds in the Penguins development camp media guide, you get it a lot. “It gets old after a while,” Swanson laughed. “For sure, I think that’s part of it. It’s not a very common thing to have a forward that’s 5-7, which I understand. But the game’s played on the ice. The off-ice stuff gets a lot of attention sometimes, but it’s what you do on the ice that’s really important.”
Zoo Crew starts fast, hangs on late to advance in TBT
The opening round of last year’s The Basketball Tournament was not kind to the Zoo Crew. While led by some of the best players from Pitt’s golden era of men’s basketball, they were older and slower than their opponents and it showed as they were bounced from the event after just one game. But with a retooled roster that is younger and more athletic, The Zoo Crew opened the 2024 TBT with a bang. They unleashed a barrage of 3-pointers upon Million $ Worth of Game to set up a second round matchup with a bitter rival after a 98-95 win.
Election 2024 Trump Shooting The Newspaper
The biggest of stories came to the small city of Butler. Here's how its newspaper met the moment. Butler Eagle reporter Irina Bucur had a relatively straightforward assignment when a Trump rally came to town. She was to interview local rallygoers, with the people who sold lemonade and parked cars. That changed in a flash when gunshots flew last week. The Eagle, struggling like so many local newspapers across the country, found itself thrust in the middle of a huge national story, with all its attendant tensions. Locals can be outgunned when the national journalists come to town, but they also have advantages they can press. Despite the trauma of the past week, 25-year-old Bucur learned something about herself: She thinks she's cut out for journalism.

Tom Purcell: My childhood neighborhood did not raise assassins
I grew up in Bethel Park, the middle-class suburb south of Pittsburgh where 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks lived with his parents. Crooks’ attempt to kill Donald Trump last weekend has filled my old neighborhood with shock and sadness. Bethel Park is populated by decent, salt-of-the-earth people — people such...

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Luis Ortiz pitched seven shutout innings, Oneil Cruz had a home run and three RBIs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates stretched their winning streak to six games with a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. Ortiz (5-2), who had not gone more than six...

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump's campaign released an update on the former president's health Saturday, one week after he survived an attempted assassination at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The issue is with the board and central office administration continuing to spend instead of...
After knowing only his hometown Bruins, Matt Grzelcyk prepares to move to the ‘other Black and Gold’ in Pittsburgh
A lifetime Bostonian by birthplace (Charlestown), school (Boston University), and trade (Bruins, left defense), Matt Grzelcyk will pack bags at his Seaport residence just after Labor Day and move to his new digs just north of downtown Pittsburgh. Grzelcyk, no longer a kid at 30, will bid the hub adieu...

When the big story comes to a small town: How the Butler Eagle covered the Trump shooting

Bet on a low scoring game between the Phillies and Pirates in Saturday’s matchup
Christopher Sanchez is a dark horse Cy Young contender. He’s still 100-to-1 to win the award at some sportsbooks (Caesars) but has amassed the second-most fWAR among National League pitchers (3.2; Chris Sale is first with 3.7). He’s up over 100 innings with a sub-three ERA, and the Phillies are 10-8 in his starts.
