Braves top Pirates with 10th-inning walk-off single
The way the Pittsburgh Pirates lost in extra innings to the Atlanta Braves Saturday made Paul Skenes’ solid start something of an afterthought. After a deflating overturned call negated the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th, Atlanta’s Adam Duvall hit a winning RBI single off Kyle Nicolas in the bottom half of the inning, lifting the Braves to a 2-1 victory.

ATLANTA — A former Yankees closer just surpassed an ex-Mets closer in the record books on Saturday. Aroldis Chapman throws glove on mound after thinking he blew game, but actually didn’t Chapman tied Wagner’s record of 1,196 strikeouts by retiring d’Arnaud and then claimed the record by striking out Murphy. The Pirates are already wasting Paul Skenes in maddening ways
Paul Skenes was on the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday afternoon, and he was absolutely dynamic again. He ended up going six innings, allowing just one run while striking out nine batters to lower his ERA to 2.06 for the season. Even as a rookie he might already legitimately be one of the top five starting pitchers in all of Major League Baseball. The only problem – he got no run support, again, as the Pirates were on the losing end of a 2-1, 10-inning loss to the Atlanta Braves. It is the second consecutive start in which Skenes has...
