El Rancho Breakfast and Tacos to open on East Johnson Street
Following the recent closure of East Johnson Family Restaurant, a new breakfast-and-taco spot intends to open in Tenney-Lapham by mid-August. El Rancho Breakfast and Tacos, owned by José Torres and his son, Gerardo Florencio-Reyes, will serve scratch-made pancakes, French toast and omelets in the mornings. For lunch and dinner, the menu will resemble that of El Rancho Mexican Grill on Park Street: tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and more.
Madison to build permanent men’s shelter on Far East Side
The Madison CommonCouncil approved four new housing developments at a July 2 meeting, one of which will be the city’s first permanent men's shelter at 1904 Bartillon Drive. The new permanent shelter is set to hold 250-300 men in total, Madison Community Development Director Jim O’Keefe told The Daily Cardinal. It will be the first permanent men’s shelter in Madison, with a previous temporary all men’s shelter operating out of the basement of Grace Episcopal Church.

At 39 years old, Madison's Garrett Jones finally achieves dream of winning the Wisconsin State Amateur Championship. Garrett Jones had tears in his eyes Thursday as he walked up the steep hill from the 18th green to the clubhouse at The Legend at Merrill Hills. The Madison golfer had just won the 123rd Wisconsin State Amateur, and friends and fellow competitors were stopping him every few feet to congratulate him, to hug him, to show their appreciation for a job well done. At 39, Jones finally could call himself a State Amateur champion. It meant the world to him.
7-20-24 kwik trip robbery update
More information is coming to light about a suspect involved in Fond du Lac convenience store robbery. Nobody was injured after a 19 year old North Fond du Lac man robbed the North Main Street Kwik Trip early Monday morning, just a few hundred feet from the police station. Police Chief Aaron Goldstein says the suspect told employees to lock the front door and handed them a note demanding money. Goldstein says when an officer spotted the suspect walking along West Bank Street with a bag in his hand, the suspect took off running. “He started to run to the west and change started to fly out and dollar bills started to fly out. We were able to catch him just a couple blocks away,” Goldstein told WFDL news. Goldstein says the suspect had been released from prison the day before the robbery. “It didn’t take long from the release from prison for him to come back to this area and commit this crime.” Mason Enfeldt made his initial Fond du Lac court appearance this week on multiple charges including robbery, battery, resisting, criminal damage to property and bail jumping. Bail was set at $10,000 cash. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 26th.

(The Center Square) – Two Wisconsin lawmakers have introduced legislation that would require cities or counties that use ballot drop boxes to have them under 24/7 video surveillance. The proposals of state Rep. Scott Krug, R-Rome, and state Sen.
