I was flying a DC-9 over canyon lands national park when an oil seal let go on a Pratt and Whitney engine. All the oil leaked out in seconds and I was forced to shut the engine down. We asked for a vector to the nearest airport which was Grand Junction Colorado. After an uneventful single engine landing I got the company to send a rescue airplane to pick everyone up. It would take a couple hours so I called the airline owner and asked if he would buy all 165 passengers lunch at the airport cafe. He said absolutely and to use his credit card. Everyone was grateful for being safe and full. Times have changed.

I think that was so nice of the captain of the United Airlines to buy pizza for all of the passengers ! đŸ„° to me it shows that they care about their passengers. I thought that was very kind. â˜ș
