International recording artist Pitbull has purchased then naming rights to Florida International University Stadium in Miami, according to FIU Board of Trustees documents obtained by ESPN 's Pete Thamel on Tuesday (August 6).

The FIU Board of Trustees approved a five-year, $1.2 million deal to rename the stadium 'Pitbull Stadium' on Tuesday.

"International recording artist Pitbull is purchasing the naming rights to FIU’s football stadium. He’s expected to pay the school $1.2 million per year for the next five years to change the name of FIU Stadium to Pitbull Stadium, per FIU board documents," Thamel wrote on his X account.

Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Perez , is a Miami native who goes by the moniker 'Mr. 305,' a reference to the city's area code. FIU's stadium will become the first college athletics building to be named after a musician.

Pitbull will have the option to renew the agreement for five additional years once the deal is completed. Additionally, Pitbull will create an anthem for FIU, post about the school on his social media accounts 12 times per year, get use of the stadium 10 days per year and make an appearance at one fundraising event each year through the entirety of the deal.
