Abandoned grain silo in Kersey may become a restaurant and brewery

KERSEY, Colo. (KDVR) — The Colorado town of Kersey has been awarded a grant to rehabilitate an old grain storage elevator that may turn into a restaurant and brewery.

The Environmental Protection Agency grant is for slightly less than $1.3 million, according to Mayor Gary Lagrimanta.

“It’s an EPA grant that’s given out to places that need to be cleaned up, that pose a potential hazard to people,” he said.

Lagrimanta said the structure was constructed in the early 1960s. It sits on the south side of downtown Kersey, near railroad tracks.

The tentative plan is to convert the building into a restaurant and brewery.

Lagrimanta said the town manager notified him about the grant on Sunday. The hope is to start the process “relatively soon.”

Kersey is located 8 miles east of Greeley.
