DENVER (KDVR) — A man was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly fired a gun at a roommate near their home in Highlands Ranch.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 9900 block of Aftonwood Street just before 9 p.m. after a call reporting gunshots.

“Deputies learned that the roommates who lived at the house were involved in a disturbance, outside the home, and at one point the suspect grabbed a gun,” the sheriff’s office said in a post on X.

One of the victims was driving away when they heard gunshots and saw the suspect standing in the street, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect, identified as Cesar Olang-Puig, 29, left the residence, but the sheriff’s office said it wasn’t long before he was found and taken into custody without incident.

“This senseless act could have easily injured or killed an innocent occupant of a nearby home,” Sheriff Darren Weekly said.

Olang-Puig was taken to the Douglas County Detention Facility and is charged with criminal attempted homicide, illegal discharge of a weapon, and disorderly conduct discharging a weapon.
