Donald Trump visits Aspen for private fundraiser

DENVER (KDVR) — Donald Trump made an unlikely visit to the Colo r ado mountains on Saturday, looking to raise money for his re-election campaign.

Aspen resident Michael Quintanilla wasn’t sure exactly what was keeping him from getting to work on Saturday afternoon.

“I was stuck in traffic and then I just see police cars and stuff,” he said.

He took out his phone to start recording when he figured it out.

“My mom called me and said ‘Trump’s in town,'” said Quintanilla.

Trump made the trip to Aspen for a private fundraiser, put on by millionaire donors giving thousands of dollars to the campaign. Pitkin County GOP chair Jon Kelly says the energy was high all week.

“We’ve really seen a lot of excitement in the town and the county,” said Kelly.

Kelly said Pitkin County usually votes Democrat, and even though Trump isn’t expected to win Colorado, he said that hasn’t mattered to Republicans in the area.

“There’s folks who are going to be excited even if their state doesn’t vote for that candidate or party,” he said.

Kelly also believes that the only planned visit for Trump to the state is likely going to help energize the party.

“Just generating excitement among fellow Republicans, that they can come out and help us get out to vote and make those phone calls, knock on doors and do all those things we typically do in an election season,” said Kelly.
