DENVER (KDVR) — The Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District is set to host the second edition of its annual Olde Town Shindig: A Music and Arts Festival.

Those in attendance will get to see artwork that took precision, buckets of time and creativity.

Speaking of celebrations, what better way to celebrate an art festival than with one massive piece of art?

    Enter artist Bobby Magee Lopez.

Lopez, who won the 2023 Olde Town Shindig mural contest, returns this year to make another statement art piece on one of the exterior walls of an Olde Town building. The building chosen this year is the Nutrition Therapy Institute on Olde Wadsworth Boulevard.

As the winner of last year’s competition, Lopez was awarded a commission to work with a local business to create a mural in the Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District. Lopez worked with Chris and Diane Koehler, owners of NTI. The mural is centered around NTI’s theme of food, nutrition and sustainability.

Lopez has been creating art all of his life beginning at 6 years old. As he grew up, art proved to be a constant in his life and he started his own graphic design and painting business at the age of 12.

A graduate of the Art Institute of Colorado and Metropolitan State University of Denver, Lopez studied under Colorado artist and muralist Carlos Fresquez. Lopez has been involved in the arts scene in Denver since, opening up several galleries in the city.

Lopez’s mural will be a centerpiece of this festival and will last years and years beyond.

The Olde Town Shindig: A Music and Arts Festival will take place on Sept. 6-7.

They get rid of the Arvada festival for this. Rather have our festival back.
