Alexander Mountain Fire contained, but crews still putting out smoke on burn scar

DENVER ( KDVR ) — While the Alexander Mountain Fire is 100% contained, crews are still putting out smoky spots in the area. On Sunday morning, crews worked to put out smoke on top of Palisade Mountain.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said there were reports of smoke on top of the mountain in the burn scar. When Loveland Fire Rescue Authority arrived, they found a column of smoke developing in an area of unburned fuel.

“Firefighters spent several hours using hand tools to knock down the fire’s growth and secure the edge. They also pulled in the large logs producing smoke and allowed them to burn up completely, which will prevent them from re-igniting,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

The sheriff’s office said that although the fire is officially contained, there are still patches of unburned fuel within the 9,668-acre burn scar.

According to the sheriff’s office, the U.S. Forest Service is still monitoring hot areas and spot fires around the areas where the Alexander Mountain Fire burned.
