When skies could be clear in Denver for the super blue moon

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Tuesday and Wednesday night mark the last days the super blue moon will be full, and in Denver, you’ll be able to get a decent view of the moon during at least one of the nights, said the Pinpoint Weather team.

According to NASA , a moon is considered a supermoon when it is in its new or full phase, and within 90% of its closest approach to Earth. It is also a blue moon because “blue” means it’s the third full moon in a season of four full moons.

NASA said there is a full moon from Sunday through Wednesday, which is when the moon will be the biggest and brightest of the year.

In Denver, the weather should hold out to make the moon visible — at least for Tuesday night.

Night time forecast for the super blue moon

According to Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Greg Perez, there will be a little bit of cloud cover on Tuesday night, although the moon should still be visible.

On Tuesday night, temperatures dip into the middle 60s and winds could be breezy with gusts up to 25 mph, but the rain shouldn’t be a problem for people looking to see the moon. Tuesday night will likely be a better night to check out the moon than Wednesday.

Perez said the clouds could stick around for Wednesday night because of some late-day rain storms in the metro which could cause some problems if you’re trying to check out the moon.

If you miss the supermoon, NASA said this is the first of four consecutive supermoons this year. However, the next seasonal blue moon will be on Aug. 21, 2032.
