DENVER (KDVR) — Coloradans know how to have fun, and a recent WalletHub study proves that the Centennial State is one of the most fun states in the U.S.

WalletHub analyzed all 50 states across 26 metrics to define which states are the “most fun” in 2024. The metrics included things like how many activities are available per capita, the variety of activities and entertainment, how much it costs and even the weather.

The two key categories were entertainment/recreation and nightlife. Colorado ranked no. 5 for entertainment and recreation, and no. 9 for nightlife, which WalletHub writer and analyst Chip Lupo said reflects the “vibrant and diverse offerings for residents and visitors alike.”

Colorado was ranked as the no. 5 most fun state in the U.S. overall, according to WalletHub.

Colorado ranked the highest when it comes to personal expenditures on recreation services (no. 2) as well as state and local expenditures on parks and recreation per capita (tied for no. 1).

“The state tops in state and local expenditures on parks and recreation, which shows its strong commitment to maintaining and enhancing public spaces. The unique combination of natural beauty and investment in recreational infrastructure makes Colorado a top contender for fun and active living,” Lupo wrote in a statement to FOX31.

Lupo said Colorado is especially noteworthy thanks to the outdoor activities available here. For example, Colorado tied with several other states for the most skiing facilities per capita.
