Arachnids assemble for a limited time at the Butterfly Pavilion

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (KDVR) — An event that will send some people fleeing with fear, while also attracting the eye of those fascinated by our eight-legged friends, the “ Spiders Around the World ” exhibit will see rare species of spiders make their way to the Butterfly Pavilion this fall.

The immersive experience features life-sized web decor that will make visitors feel as though they are trapped in a web with the complex creatures that will be showcased, according to the organization. Dozens of species of spiders will be on display during the limited-time event and they will be putting on their best performance to showcase their beauty, complexity and integral role within an ecosystem.

The exhibition includes various activities and experiences and will begin on Sept. 21 and last through Oct. 31. More information on the event can be found on the Butterfly Pavilion website.

Tarantulas from Around the World

Butterfly Pavilion ambassador animals, Rosie and Goldie , will make some new friends as 20 different species of tarantulas from Colorado, the Americas, Asia, Africa, Australia, and Oceania travel to join their distant relatives for the event.

Itsy-Bitsy Spiderling Nursery

If large spiders aren’t your thing, then perhaps spiderlings will be more to your liking. This exhibit features four different species of tarantula spiderlings and will have experts explain the importance of breeding, husbandry, welfare, and conservation of the distinguished species.

Face your Fears – Spider Zone

Not for the faint of heart, the Spider Zone encompasses an 80-foot enclosure that will have hundreds of free-roaming orb-weaving spiders. Visitors will be able to get up close and personal with the web artists as the display will have no barriers. The perfect opportunity to observe their expertly crafted webs.

Bug-A-Boo Trick-or-Treating

Oct. 18, 19, 26, and 27 : 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Oct. 31 : 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

This event allows children to collect treats at candy and toy stations located throughout the Butterfly Pavilion and is a safe opportunity to combine the fun of trick-or-treating with an educational experience.

Spooky After-Hours Flashlight Tours:

Oct. 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27 : 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Those who embrace the scares and thrills during the Halloween season can take a flashlight-guided tour after hours with plenty of creepy crawlies at every turn.

The Butterfly Pavilion is bringing a variety of species of spiders that are uncommon in the area. The event will give guests the opportunity to check out some unique spiders they wouldn’t normally get to see, all while getting to learn about the habits and makeup that make each species distinct and how their roles in nature coincide with ours.
