DENVER (KDVR) — If you think this summer has been hot, you’d be correct. Denver has officially cracked the top 15 for the most 90-degree days in a year.

Through Aug. 21, there have been 50 days with a temperature of 90 degrees or hotter. Breaking it down in meteorological summer (June, July and August), Denver saw 16 days with temperatures 90 degrees or warmer in June, 20 days of 90-degree temperatures in July, and so far 14 days in August have seen temperatures at or above 90 degrees.

This places Denver at the 15th all-time for 90-degree days in the year, with more likely to add on to them. The most 90-degree days seen in one year came in 2020 with 75 days. In fact, the top 3 have all happened since 2012.

To crack the top ten, Denver will need to see at least 55 days of 90 degrees or hotter weather — something that will be possible.

It’s not the only hot streak Denver has set this year. In terms of consecutive 90-degree days, 2024 currently ranks 9th with 15 straight days of 90-degree temperatures or warmer, tied with 2012 and 1934.

As Denver nears the end of summer, it’s looking unlikely that there will be such a long stretch of high heat again this year.
