New security checkpoint set to open next year at Denver International Airport

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Another security checkpoint that will match the new West Security Checkpoint at the Denver International Airport is halfway finished.

The West Security Checkpoint opened in February with the goal of getting passengers through the process faster.

The checkpoint features facial recognition enrollment and digital identification to access boarding passes and validate identities. After a two and a half-second scan through security, you’re done. There’s also an automatic diversion of any carry-on that might have prohibited items, so people don’t hold up the line.

The airport is currently in the process of building its sister checkpoint, the East Security Checkpoint. As of mid-August, the airport said in a release that the checkpoint is at 50% completion.

Here’s a look into the checkpoint’s progress.

While it doesn’t look like much yet, the security checkpoint will “mirror” the West Security Checkpoint with 17 screening lanes, state-of-the-art technology, four more elevators and additional escalators, according to an airport press release.

Once the checkpoint is finished, the airport said in a release that Bridge Security will be closed as passengers will have already passed through security.

The checkpoint is projected by the airport to be finished in about a year, toward the late summer or early fall of 2025.
