DENVER (KDVR) — Summer heat, construction, animals and severe weather are some of the most common causes of power outages. The loss of electricity affects businesses and homes, especially those that do not have backup generators.

The Player’s Pub bar on South Broadway runs electronic games and features several moving light displays. When the power goes out, their bottom line is affected.

“We can’t sell anything,” employee Caitlin Braun told FOX31.

Blake Davis is the president of an area homeowners association. He said every outage presents a risk to residents.

“We have people that have medical devices that they need to sleep or medicine that they keep in refrigerators,” he said.

Braun also represents the LBCRNO, a registered neighborhood organization. She told FOX31 that businesses in the corridor experienced outages in 2023 and during the first part of this year.

Asking Xcel: What caused the power outages on Broadway-Lincoln?

The Problem Solvers asked Xcel Energy what may have caused the power to go out.

A spokesperson issued a statement explaining that since the beginning of 2024, there have been 10 sustained outages. Of those 10, four were caused by animal contact, three by equipment failure and one was weather-related.

Xcel also experienced a 28-minute outage for planned construction in the area. The cause was not found, but crews installed new fuses.

The company told FOX31: “We know that having reliable power is very important to our customers and communities, and our crews work as quickly as possible to safely restore power when there is an issue.”

Xcel will continue to work closely with businesses and residents in the area.
