Video shows bear cub playing on swing set in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KXRM) — A mama bear and her two cubs were spotted in southwest Colorado Springs on Wednesday, and one of the cubs was particularly interested in a homeowner’s swing set.

Mike G. shared a couple of videos from his security cameras which captured the bears walking through his yard in the Skyway neighborhood.

The bears are seen crossing the street before walking into the homeowner’s backyard, where one of the cubs found interest in the playground.

In the video below, you can see the cub standing on its back legs in an attempt to play on the swing set, before placing its front paws on the swing. You then see the cub fall into the seat before it eventually climbs off. The other cub in the video is seen standing on its back legs attempting to play with what appears to be a wind chime. The cubs then scurry off with their mom before exiting the video.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, “Despite popular misconceptions, mothers with cubs rarely attack humans,” but reminded people that it’s never a good idea to get between a mother and her cubs.

CPW said in late summer and fall, bears need to forage up to 20 hours a day and added, that you should never approach a bear or offer food. More information about living with bears can be found at the link above.
