DENVER (KDVR) — After a lot of hard work and determination, a single mother of two is celebrating being a first-time homeowner.

She’s faced a lot of struggles along the way but she said it was all worth it. As you walk through the walls of her home in Green Valley Ranch, it truly feels like home.

It’s a place where Jaida Wright said she is grateful to raise her children.

“This was what I was working for and now we have everything we could have ever wanted and more,” said Wright.

She’s been wanting to become a homeowner for five years, and it’s been a long road for the single mother of two.

“I was a teen mom. Typically with teen moms, you’re always told; you’re not going to do much, you’re not going to be much, you’re not going to have much. You can’t do anything. Your life is over,” said Wright.

After having her first child at 17 years old, Wright balanced raising her daughter and juggled three jobs while also attending college. Things got even harder after having her second child.

“Many tears, crying to my mom telling her I’m going to be stuck forever,” said Wright. “I’m like, with this market, I don’t know how I’m going to do this.”

The 25-year-old’s dream of becoming a homeowner is now a reality. It took hard work, determination, a lot of saving and faith for this to all come together.

“I think in this county the American dream is real,” said Connie Demos with Oakwood Homes.

Demos played a huge role in helping Wright with her homeownership.

“In a lot of instances, we give help as far as guidance with their credit. Helping them come up with a game plan to obtain that goal. Paying down debt,” said Demos.

It’s a place that Jaida and her children can truly call their own.

“We watched it become a structure, we watched them put the drywall in and the flooring in, ” said Wright. “The girls were so excited they were like, ‘We got toilets!’ Then it was ‘Oh my God we have a fridge!’ And now it’s ‘Oh my God, we’re home’.”

Wright shares this advice for future homeowners:

“Just know you can do whatever you want to do. Most importantly if you’re looking to buy a house, I’m young and I know so many people around my generation and age think it’s impossible. They’re like, ‘I don’t know how we’re going to buy houses, our parents had different interest rates, our parents were able to do this and that,’ you can do it too,” said Wright.

Wright says if you are looking into purchasing a home with Oakwood Homes, start with their Homebuyer’s Club, the program that she said changed her life. More information can be found on the Oakwood Homes website .

Owning your own tomb (house) yet the land is not yours. That's not ownership. Such deception patriarchal colonization ushered in with it's arrival.
