LOUISVILLE, Colo. (KDVR) — You can say Louisville resident Tim Smith is a fan of the Louisville Police Department.

“Not many of the officers live in town here. They want to learn more about and how the citizens feel. How the citizens react to them,” resident Tim Smith said. “So they talk to the citizens and just being a pleasure and they are never rushed. They always take the time to chat with you.”

Louisville, Colorado, began as a mining community in 1877. The population nowadays is north of 20,000 residents.

“I started here at Louisville in 2009, so 15 years,” Louisville Police Sgt. Ryan Morris said.

Patrol Sgt. Morris was a tour guide on Monday for citizen Tim Smith, who nominated the police department for FOX31 Support the Shield honors.

Smith asked Division Chief Mike Miller how long he has been a police officer there.

“I started in 1995, so I’m coming up on 30 years here in Louisville,” Miller said.

Being on the street, being on patrol and taking the time to interact with citizens were just some of the reasons Smith nominated the Louisville Police Department for this month’s Support the Shield honor.

Smith told the men and women of the Louisville Police Department the reason he nominated them was because they earned it.
