New horse ranch south of Denver teaches ‘greenhorns’ to ride

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KDVR) — If you are all hat and no horse, a brand new horse ranch south of Denver awaits your arrival.

Horsemanship is a lot like skiing. You need some lessons to do it right and safely. Spend a little time at Bell Mountain Equestrian Center and you will quickly see they are not just horsing around.

Bell Mountain Equestrian Center is designed for those wishing to explore the great Colorado outback on top of a horse.

“I’m fortunate to be sixth-generation Coloradan. My family on both my mom and dad’s side of the family homesteaded here in Colorado,” said Matt Wassam, Bell Mountain Equestrian Center founder and CEO.

The Bell Mountain Equestrian Center is for folks wishing to become familiar with a filly or a colt.

“We are a drama-free equestrian center made up of really great horse people that are interested in learning about horses,” Wassam said.

No experience is necessary. Would-be cowboys and cowgirls will learn what they need to know about riding, roping and even how to fit and buy a saddle.

Former professional bull rider Ty Rinaldo is the manager of the on-site retail shop called Colorado Saddlery.

“We’ve got the saddle shop attached to the equestrian center, so you can come get anything you need for a horse,” Rinaldo said. “We got a rodeo room and an English room. And also they have plenty of room for new riders who wish to be in the saddle.”
