DENVER (KDVR) — A man who was camping and hiking near the Middle St. Vrain trailhead in Boulder County was found dead Saturday.

The man, 67, was hiking, climbing and camping in the area of the Middle St. Vrain trailhead, near Camp Dick at 50,000 Peak to Peak Highway, north of Nederland, according to the sheriff’s office. He was supposed to return home on Thursday, but when he did not show up or check-in, his family reported him missing.

When his vehicle was found in the parking lot of the Middle St. Vrain Trailhead, a search effort was launched.

“Based on reports from the family, a search was conducted in the area with ground searchers and dog teams,” the press release reads.

The man believed to be the missing person was found dead in a scree field near the trailhead around 1 p.m. Saturday.

“Rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group were able to recover the deceased male and transport him to investigators from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office,” the sheriff’s office said.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will identify the man and the cause and manner of his death. The sheriff’s office said the death does not appear to be suspicious.
