COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ( KXRM ) — The Colorado Springs Police Department said a man was killed in an officer-involved shooting that happened in the overnight hours Tuesday.

According to police, around 10:30 p.m. officers found a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart in the 3200 block of East Platte Avenue. Officers worked with extra duty officers at the Walmart to learn who was using the stolen vehicle and identified a man and a woman.

CSPD said officers approached the couple as they were leaving the store, then, according to police, the man pulled a handgun and one officer fired at least one round at the man, hitting him.

Police rendered aid to the man until medical personnel arrived, but the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The woman was detained by officers and not injured, according to police.

No officers were injured in this incident, and as per CSPD policy the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the shooting.
