DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado Energy Office under Gov. Jared Polis announced on Wednesday that an additional round of rebates will be available following the success of the electric bicycle rebate program.

Applications for the rebate program will open on Sept. 16 and close on Sept. 23. Those looking to purchase an e-bike can also see benefits from the state’s e-bike tax credit discount. The tax credit discount will be available for Coloradans until 2032 to purchase a qualified e-bike from an authorized retailer.

“These popular rebates help save Coloradans money and break down barriers so more people can access e-bikes, improving Colorado’s air quality and saving people time and money in traffic. Thousands of Coloradans have already taken advantage of these savings, and I look forward to seeing even more do the same, Polis said.

The influx of rebate money will mean approximately 1,300 to 1,500 more rebates will become available for Coloradans and increase the total from the current amount of over 6,700.

Of the Coloradans who have already redeemed their rebate, 88% qualify as low-income, 35% are 55 years or older and 18% live in rural communities.

“This program has been a win-win for consumers and businesses. E-bikes are not just a fun, easy, and active way to commute to work, pick up your groceries, or get from point A to point B; e-bike adoption is a key part of meeting the Polis administration’s landmark goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution and traffic congestion,” Colorado Energy Officer Executive Director Will Toor said in a press release.

    Colorado e-bike rebate information

Here is who is eligible for Colorado’s e-bike rebates:

    • Colorado residents with an income at or below 80% of the area median income in their county of residence can receive a $1,100 rebate.
    • Colorado residents who are making 80% to 100% of their county’s area median income can qualify for a $500 rebate.

Qualified recipients can also receive an extra $300 to purchase an e-cargo bike. Other qualifications can see Colorado residents receive a $250 bonus to purchase an adaptive e-bike.

In order to redeem the rebate, recipients have to purchase their e-bike either in person or over the phone from a list of authorized e-bike retailers around the state. If the retailer also participates in the state’s e-bike tax credit program, consumers can combine the two programs if they fit the criteria of the tax credit discount.

Those interested in the rebate program can apply on the e-bike rebate program website. Following the closing of the application period, the Colorado Energy Office will randomly select recipients and notify them via email. To confirm their eligibility , the recipients must disclose proof of Colorado residency and their income qualification.

In places such as Denver or Boulder where existing rebate programs are already in effect, recipients cannot combine the local rebate with the state rebate.
