DENVER ( KDVR ) — Casa Bonita is a beloved local institution with a lifetime of memories for some Coloradans, but to others, it’s just a pink building.

Casa Bonita is everywhere, from the “South Park” episode to customized merchandise and even an upcoming documentary . FOX31 asked its viewers on Facebook what this obsession with this restaurant was about and why Coloradans love Casa Bonita so much .

Facts you may not know about Casa Bonita

Most of the responses said it boiled down to one main thing: Nostalgia.

Why some Coloradans love Casa Bonita so much

For many people, Casa Bonita was a memory from their childhoods, where special occasions, family events and birthday parties took place. It was a childhood “staple” according to one viewer and described as “magic” by another.

“I’ve lived here 28 (years), when I was little my parents would take me consistently. It’s apart of my childhood and one of the places I have very fond memories of me and my late father. It was such a fun place to go as a family,” said one viewer.

Even a feeling from 30 years ago is still being cherished.

“I love it because it reminds me of my younger days staying at grandpas house and going to Casa Bonita and Elitches. That was 30+ years ago. I went in October and it was everything I remembered. They all did an amazing job of keeping it true to the original. I cannot wait to go back,” said another viewer.

Now, the adults want to pass that feeling on.

“In the most simplistic of terms, nostalgia. For many kids, this place was the coolest most fun restaurant one could ever eat at. As adults now, they want to pass on that magic and wonder to their own kids,” said another viewer.

However, not everyone agreed about the “obsession” with Casa Bonita. In fact, many of the viewers said that as lifelong Coloradans, they’ve never been to Casa Bonita, and don’t plan on ever going.

    Casa Bonita isn’t for everyone

Among the nostalgic memories shared on FOX31’s Facebook post, other comments revealed that many others couldn’t care less about the restaurant.

Many people who went to the spot said it was too expensive, the food was bad and the only reason people wanted to go was because they couldn’t. One viewer described the love for Casa Bonita as having “Nostalgia glasses.”

“I’ve only been once in the 30 years I’ve lived here, nothing to write home about,” said one viewer.

Meanwhile, other lifelong Coloradans said they’d never been and don’t plan on going.

With the reservations for the restaurant finally opening up, some people are ready to go again, either to relive a childhood memory or to try it out for the hype. However, others aren’t planning on stopping by, as they think it’s either overrated or simply don’t care about its popularity.

Been there since it reopened. Food was delivered cold, the staff acted like it was a high class restaurant so very snooty, looks just like the old place and way too expensive. Would have done better if it kept the old system and just raised the prices

even if they get the food right, $40 for beans and rice, HELL NO! If you want entertainment for your family try bowling and a pizza or putt-putt. roller skating or bike riding.
