Triple shooting in Commerce City neighborhood leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Police are investigating a triple shooting in a small Commerce City neighborhood that left one person dead and two hospitalized.

The Commerce City Police Department responded to “gunfire detection tech” around 1 a.m. in the 7300 block of Oneida Drive, near Colorado Highway 2 and 74th Avenue on Oneida Drive.

The neighborhood is only blocks from Lester Arnold High School and Adams City High School.

Police said one woman was pronounced dead and a man and woman were taken to the hospital. The man is in critical condition while the woman sustained minor injuries.

FOX31’s Carly Moore was on the scene gathering more information about the shooting. Moore reported that a nearby resident said shots are constant around the neighborhood.

“A lot of crime happening right here in the area, right in our backyard, and I think that one of the biggest concerns is the kids. I’m a teacher, so a lot of kids live here in the neighborhood. They walk by here, and we don’t see a lot of patrolling of the police, so that’s a huge concern,” resident Dee Garza told Moore.

As of 8:30 a.m., police are still investigating the scene, which has evidence markers and crime scene tape across the neighborhood. Moore said that kids were walking near the crime scene with backpacks, presumably heading to the nearby school.

At this time, police said there’s no suspect information and no one is in custody. It’s still unclear what led up to the shooting.
