Portions of I-70 under construction in Aurora, Golden

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Major construction is starting on Interstate 70 this week on both the east and west sides.

One of the projects is the Picadilly Project near I-70 and Colfax Avenue on the eastern side of Aurora. The project will be along one of the routes near Denver International Airport.

The Picadilly Interchange Project is designed to help relieve traffic in that area. Colorado Department of Transportation crews are building the diverging diamond interchange to accommodate new growth in the area. There is a new bike and pedestrian path in the works as well.

Starting Monday, the westbound I-70 off-ramp to Colfax Avenue in Aurora will be closed for work on the median. That ramp to Colfax will remain closed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Sept. 20. It will be open as normal on Saturdays and Sundays.

In order to get around that closure, the city said drivers should continue west on I-70 and exit on Tower Road then head south to Colfax.

CDOT is also working on construction on the west side of town near Golden.

Crews are asking drivers to take it easy near the I-70 and Ward Road area. CDOT construction is ongoing in that area, so watch for changing speed limit signs that are marked with beacons and radar feedback alerts.
