Colorado bear breaks into Domino’s Pizza car but leaves behind evidence

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Bears are getting hungrier heading toward hibernation .

Colorado Parks and Wildlife said they spend around 20 hours a day looking to fill an appetite of about 20,000 calories, equivalent to a fast food order consisting of 20 chicken sandwiches, 10 large orders of French fries, 10 soft drinks and 10 milkshakes.

Or for one bear, a couple of boxes of Domino’s Pizza.

On Saturday, one bear in Steamboat Springs broke into a Domino’s Pizza delivery car, where the bear was met with the pizza bags that keep the cheesy dinners warm. It would’ve been an unsolved crime, that is if the bear didn’t leave paw prints on the doors and windows of the car.

This is one of many unique encounters with wildlife this year.

Throughout the summer, bears have been spotted at the Colorado Renaissance Festiva l in Larkspur, on swing sets in Colorado Springs and throughout neighborhoods across the Front Range.

CPW told FOX31 that bears have been spotted in many popular areas because they’re looking for food .

CPW asks people to haze the bears to help them move on . They suggest making loud noises like with car alarms, pots and pans, air horns or yelling. They also ask people to keep all trash locked until the morning of pickup and to make sure grills are thoroughly cleaned so they do not smell like food residue.

If you spot a bear in your neighborhood, CPW asks people to call and report it to them so they can track and keep data of bear whereabouts.
