DENVER (KDVR) — Former NFL superstar and Super Bowl winner with the Denver Broncos Vernon Davis has released a memoir detailing his formative teenage years, NFL career and future as an entertainer and entrepreneur.

Davis’ memoir “Playing Ball” will cover the highs and lows of his NFL career with an emphasis on how his life transformed following former coach Mike Singletary’s “me, myself and I” press conference. In the press conference, Singletary criticized Davis for having a selfish attitude. The moment spurred Davis to change the way he thought about himself, playing and life around him.

“Weaving personal reflections with frank, real-world advice, this book is more than a memoir. It’s an eye-opening exploration of what winning on the field and beyond really means,” Davis said. “In the book, I rewind the tape to reflect on my difficult upbringing, my career, and competitive spirit and the insights about teamwork, leadership, and responsibility that came in the aftermath of Coach Singletary’s press conference, spurring me to transform my life for the better.”

Davis came into the NFL as the sixth pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2006 NFL Draft, a position that came with lofty expectations. In October of 2008, following a loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Singletary felt Davis wasn’t living up to those expectations and targeted him for his negative attitude. Davis didn’t back down from this challenge and used it as fuel to better his life.

The change of mindset resulted in Davis continuing a successful football career, during which he spent 10 years with the 49ers and made it to a Super Bowl with them in 2013 where they narrowly lost by three points to the Baltimore Ravens.

Two years after that loss, Davis was traded to the Denver Broncos, where he was united with the legendary Peyton Manning with whom he won Super Bowl 50. He ended his football career by returning to his hometown and playing with the Washington Commanders for four years.

While Davis discusses his past, he also has one eye set on the future. He speaks about his newest passion, which is acting in and producing feature films. He has stayed busy in this new career and has worked on nearly 40 productions in the last two years alone. During this period he also found the time to start two production companies, “Reel 85” and “Linez Productions.”

“After such a long journey and football career, I learned that life is about much more than me. It’s about helping others and inspiring people to be the best versions of themselves. I did that by showing resilience, determination, stamina and by giving everything I had to give to challenge myself to succeed,” Davis said.
