One-of-a-kind ADA-accessible community playground expands in Monument

MONUMENT, Colo. (KDVR) — A first-of-its-kind playground and park, designed for kids and adults with all kinds of different needs, is expanding in Monument.

It’s the first Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant playground in southern Colorado, and it’s taken four years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to create.

Trinity Community Park playground was designed to bring the community together. It was the brainchild of Tamara Schwarz, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church , where the park is located. She wanted people with and without disabilities to have a common space to connect and have fun, without having to focus on what makes them different.

“(If) someone’s on crutches, someone’s in a wheelchair, they can be right amongst the fun, same as everybody. We have an ADA swing. One of our next phases will be a sensory trail, which will be for the low vision and also for sensory disorders, which is really amazing to me. I learned a lot, and there’s a lot of people out there with sensory disorders,” Schwarz told FOX31.

The park held a ribbon cutting and celebration a couple of weeks ago, and now they’re moving on to fundraising for phase three of the park. If you want to help in the fundraising effort, you can visit their donation page .
