DENVER ( KDVR ) — Investigators identified a suspect who allegedly stabbed a hiker on a trail in Boulder County multiple times on Wednesday morning.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said the call came in at 7:46 a.m. reporting a stabbing on Chapman Drive at the Tenderfoot Trail, which is an open space and mountain parks trail west of Boulder.

The sheriff’s office said a man, the victim, was hiking when he was confronted by another man, who he had previously interacted with as they both frequented the area.

“The suspect stabbed the victim with a knife, multiple times,” the sheriff’s office said in a release, adding that the victim sustained serious injury and was taken to a local hospital.

Then, the suspect fled up the Tenderfoot trail to the Realization Point parking lot.

“Eight sheriff’s office deputies responded, in addition to city open space rangers, and after an extensive search of the area, they believe the suspect is no longer in the area,” the sheriff’s office said.

On Thursday morning, Boulder police said the suspect has been identified and all people involved in the case are cooperating. Police said they will not release the suspect’s identity due to the ongoing investigation.

Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to email bcsotips@bouldercounty.gov or call 303-441-3674 referencing case number 24-04671.
