Structure fire threatens other buildings in Lakewood

DENVER ( KDVR ) — A structure fire threatened at least two other buildings as crews responded on Thursday afternoon, according to West Metro Fire Rescue.

The fire is reported in the 3400 block of South Jellison Court in Lakewood, according to the agency. West Metro Fire Rescue told FOX31 at about 1:25 that the fire in the main structure was under control.

“There was some exposure damage to two neighboring homes,” the agency reported. In a second update later in the afternoon, West Metro Fire Rescue said the structure is likely a total loss, and melted some siding on a neighboring house. As of about 2:42 p.m., crews were still working to overhaul the fire and were searching for missing pets.

While all residents were safely accounted for, the fire agency said it is looking for two cats and potentially a dog that were involved in the incident.

The residential area is near Bear Creek High School and is across U.S. Highway 285 from the Schaeffer Baseball Complex.

Lakewood currently has a fire restriction in effect for its parks and open spaces. Campfires or fires that are not lit in permanently constructed fire grates or grills in natural areas and parks are prohibited, alongside fireworks, and burning trash or debris.

According to the National Weather Service Boulder, most of the Front Range and Eastern Plains of Colorado are under Red Flag warnings on Thursday afternoon . These warnings inform residents that conditions are favorable for rapid fire spread, due to windy conditions and low relative humidity.
