Michelle Obama makes surprise visit to Denver bookstore

DENVER (KDVR) — Former first lady Michelle Obama stopped in Denver and surprised shoppers at a local bookstore.

Obama posted a video on social media Friday afternoon and said she visited Tattered Cover and signed copies of her book “The Light We Carry.” The video shows her at the Colfax Avenue location.

“If anybody goes to the Tattered Cover bookstore and finds them, let us know. Let us know that you actually received one of the signed book copies of ‘The Light We Carry,'” Obama said.

Obama was at the same bookstore in 2018 , when she scheduled a signing of her book “Becoming” before being a featured speaker at the then-named Pepsi Center, now Ball Arena.

In Friday’s video, Obama said she met two girls at the 2018 signing, Rowyn and Celiste.

“If you guys are out there, give me an update, Rowyn and Celiste, on how you guys are doing,” Obama said.

During the 2018 visit to Denver, Obama also surprised patients at Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora.

On Friday’s visit to Tattered Cover, Obama got fiction recommendations from a bookseller and left with her own haul of books. In a post on social media, she said she’s “enjoyed doing these surprise bookstore visits throughout the year.”

“Hopefully the next time I talk to you, maybe it’ll be somewhere in the country at a bookstore near you,” Obama said, ending the video with a reminder to “vote, vote, vote.”
