DENVER ( KDVR ) — A portion of eastbound U.S. Highway 6 will be closed Sunday night into Monday morning, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation .

The closure is from Kipling Street to Wadsworth Boulevard and is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. on Sunday and last through 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16. Eastbound traffic will be detoured off the highway at the Kipling Street exit when construction begins.

There will also be a double left lane closure on westbound U.S. 6 during the overnight work. Closures will allow crews to safely remove overhead signs.

Once finished, crews will have installed 10-foot tall noise walls between Carr and Wadsworth Boulevard, and 12-foot tall noise walls between Meadowlark and Carr. The noise walls will be made of chiseled limestone in a light beige color with a dark brown accent stripe near the top.

The project will also realign a portion of the southwest frontage road and add an extra lane on eastbound U.S. 6 from Carr Street to the Wadsworth Boulevard off-ramp and install pedestrian crosswalks with flashing beacons at five of the U.S. 6 on- and off-ramps.

CDOT previously conducted a traffic noise sturdy on the corridor and determined the noise walls would limit traffic noise to approximately 380 residences. The current phase of this project is focusing improvements on the southwest quadrant of the U.S. 6 and Wadsworth Boulevard interchange.
