Here is everything you need to know ahead of a windy afternoon.

    Timing

While Tuesday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day, the bulk of the damage and the storm will only last a few hours.

The Pinpoint Weather team said this storm won’t last long. It is expected to hit the Front Range between 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday before ultimately exiting the state by 7 p.m. During this time, a north and south line of thunderstorms will race across the Front Range and exit through the Eastern Plains.

Even though the storm will be short-lived, it could cause extensive damage in the span of a few hours.

    Risk

You might want to spend the morning tying down loose objects and protecting any Halloween decor you may have already put out.

According to the National Weather Service , the biggest threat from this storm is wind. The chances of tornadoes, hail and flooding are all low, but hail is possible.

Denver weather: Strong, gusty storms, Pinpoint Weather Alert Day

NWS released a severe weather outlook map on Tuesday at around 11 a.m., showing which areas of the state are at the highest risk for the most damage. Those living west of Interstate 25 have a marginal risk, but that doesn’t mean the wind can’t cause damage.

NWS said wind gusts between 40-60 mph will be common.

Those living down the I-25 corridor, like Denver, Longmont, Castle Rock and Colorado Springs, are under a slight risk — which is a two on a scale out of five.

Those living on the Eastern Plains in towns like Fort Morgan, Flagler and Burlington, Sterling, Akron and Wray are under an enhanced risk — a three out of five.

Those in the northeast may experience isolated gusts between 70-80 mph. So, be sure to plan ahead and stay off the water this afternoon.

After the storm moves out by Tuesday night, Denver will have a pleasant and warm streak before the next system moves in on Saturday.
