DENVER ( KDVR ) — A robbery suspect was taken into custody nearly 32 miles away from the bank in Edgewater.

On Friday at 10:10 a.m., Edgewater police were called to the Huntington Bank at 1709 Sheridan Blvd. A bank employee told officers that a man entered the bank and passed a note to one of the employees indicating it was a robbery.

According to police, an undetermined amount of U.S. dollars was passed to the suspect. He then fled into a waiting vehicle.

When officers arrived on scene, they caught the suspect vehicle fleeing southbound toward Colfax Avenue.

Edgewater police said officers were able to track the suspect vehicle into Denver before the driver continued to go south on Interstate 25.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Castle Rock Police Department assisted Edgewater police and eventually took the suspect into custody in Castle Rock – 31.6 miles away from the bank. The sheriff’s office also said on X that the FBI’s Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task force were involved in the pursuit.

Police said there was no threat to the public. The suspect was later identified as 30-year-old Darren Fowlkes from Fountain.

The sheriff’s office said on X that no one was injured but there were passengers in the suspect vehicle.

“A special thank you to the Lakeside Police Department, Mountain View Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and Castle Rock Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension of the suspect,” said Edgewater police in an email to FOX31.

    The investigation is ongoing.

It would be nice if one day Arapahoe County could elect a Sheriff and DA with a backbone to standup to criminals, and the city mangers to hire Police Chiefs that will have officers actually fight crime instead of worrying about 30x30 or DEI quotas.
