DENVER (KDVR) – The Denver Police Department is once again cracking down on expired vehicle registration and will partner with several other law enforcement agencies for a weeklong operation, according to a release Monday.

DPD said that starting Monday it would join up with the Colorado State Patrol, the Aurora Police Department and the Colorado Springs Police Department to enforce expired vehicle registration and expired temporary license plate violations along the Interstate 25 and Interstate 70 corridors.

More license plate readers led to arrests of over 100 suspects: Denver police

The enforcement will last for a week, and drivers are encouraged to register vehicles or renew their expired registration in order to avoid being pulled over and given a $95 fine from a Denver Municipal Code citation.

This is not the first operation of its kind this year , at least in Denver. From July 15 to Aug. 15, DPD conducted a similar crackdown, which resulted in at least 430 citations.

Police said the crackdown also saw a significant increase in vehicle registrations.

DPD adopted a policy in May that emphasizes that officers focus on “addressing serious, crash-causing violations” and limits officers from conducting low-level traffic stops .

Police said it is exercising a clause in the policy to allow for the targeted enforcement operation.

Ha! Expired tags and temp tags are everywhere in Denver, along with no tag at all. Last week, I saw a temp tag that expired in Aug of 2022.
