Police released the recording of the call and the shooting on Wednesday. The caller became noticeably frantic when she spotted a weapon.

Moments later a large number of police officers were sent to the area near the Grandview Cemetery. There was also a golf course nearby.

The video shows officers running towards where the shooter was hiding. An exchange of gunfire can be heard on the video. An officer was hit and can be heard describing the injury to his arm. A police cruiser comes to help the injured officer.

“Get him out of here, go go go get out of here go go go,” an officer can be heard yelling.

Other officers continue chasing the suspect. Another officer yells that the shooter is aiming at them. Then there is more gunfire.

An armored vehicle can be seen approaching the suspect, who they discover had been shot. Officers then began CPR on the suspect who was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Fort Collins police released photos of the AR-style rifle they say he was using, as well as a handgun they say was found in his waistband.

The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old Clayton Pierce who had a long criminal history. There was no motive given by the police.

A critical incident response team has determined officers were justified in their use of force.
