Century-old barn built in Bailey now part of property selling for millions

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Horseshoe Creek Ranch’s beginnings trace back to the 1800s when one man built a barn in Bailey, turning a piece of land into a pitstop between Denver to Fairplay.

Now, that barn and surrounding area are worth millions.

According to Watkins Ranch Group , George Parmalee built a barn along the well-traveled route as a halfway point, which was needed when the trip from Denver to Fairplay was made by wagon or stagecoach.

Before the spot became a ranch for sale, it was an entire community.

The realtor said a hotel was built in the area for the stagecoach line, and the original barn was turned into a stagecoach U.S. Post Office from the 1870s to 1920s. At one point, it was even rumored that Doc Holiday played a few hands at what is now the house.

However, 100 years later, things look much different. In total, it’s about a 165-acre property. To put that into perspective, one acre is 43,560 square feet.

Here’s a peek at what it looks like.

The barn kept its ties with the property, as the realtor said the “centerpiece of the property” is a three-floor guest cottage. Meanwhile, the hotel turned into a two-story farmhouse.

The homestead houses a four-bed, seven-bath house with additional buildings, like a hay barn, a workshop and storage barns. The place also comes with three wells and a one-acre pond.

The property in Deer Creek Valley is going for $9.375 million.
