Man charged with murder in Broomfield apartment shooting

DENVER ( KDVR ) — The district attorney’s office has filed a first-degree murder charge against the man accused of killing a woman during a standoff with police at a Broomfield apartment complex.

On Thursday, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office charged 34-year-old Gregory Miles with the following:

• First-degree murder
• Four counts of first-degree attempted murder
• 18 counts of first-degree attempted murder of a peace officer
• Violent crime weapon used – sentence enhancer

The charges stem from a shooting on Sept. 12 when Broomfield police officers were called to a disturbance at the Arista Plats apartments near the former 1stBank Center.

When officers arrived at the apartment complex, they heard a man making threats and then gunshots. Broomfield police then called the situation an active shooter scene and sent a reverse 911 message to those living in the area.

Broomfield police said the hostage situation took nearly four hours, but Miles was eventually taken into custody with serious injuries. One woman was killed, and multiple law enforcement officers suffered minor injuries, but have since been treated.

The district attorney’s office identified the victim as Aisha Quest.
