DENVER ( KDVR ) — While snow was already spotted in the mountains in September, the heat is still in the Mile High City with temperatures reaching 93 degrees, breaking the high temperature record for Sept. 26.

According to the National Weather Service , September is the fourth-hottest month in Denver, but it’s usually not this hot. Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said these 90-degree temperatures in the fall season are unusual, as it hasn’t been this hot in a long time.

Denver weather: Near record heat Thursday

On average for this time of year, NWS recorded a high of 75 degrees in Denver. The last time it was this hot was on Sept. 26, 2010, when Denver reached 90 degrees, keeping a record that was first set in 1892.

Despite the warm weather, there have been cool temperatures on Sept. 26 throughout history. During this time in 1936, over a foot of snow was recorded in Denver, making it Denver’s biggest snowstorm in history .

However, this year looks a little bit different.

On Thursday afternoon, that record was broken. Today marks the 63rd time Denver has hit 90 degrees or hotter this year.

The latest Denver has recorded temperatures at 90 degrees or above was Oct. 1, 1892.

It’s still hot in the metro, but temperatures are more seasonal toward the mountains, where the leaves are already changing and the season is heading toward the winter. The mountains have already seen their first snow, and Michels said it looks to be a week or more before the next chance for snow anywhere in the state.

As for seasonal temperatures in Denver, it won’t really feel like fall for at least another week. The weekly forecast predicts temperatures in the high 70s to high 80s. Michels said temperatures won’t feel like fall until the beginning of October when temperatures will start to hit highs of the 60s and 70s.
