DENVER (KDVR) – Voters across Colorado have recently been sent a State Ballot Information Booklet, which includes information on measures that will appear on the ballot for the 2024 General Election on Nov. 5.

These booklets are sent to every household with a registered voter in it and this year, around 2 million were sent out.

When are ballots mailed out in Colorado?

The Colorado Legislative Staff Council, which creates and sends out the booklets for statewide elections, told FOX31 that the booklets for the 2024 election cost around $3.65 million to produce. This does not include the staff costs for creating the material in the booklets.

What are the booklets, and why are they sent out?

According to the Colorado General Assembly , the booklets are created “to provide voters with the text, title, and a fair and impartial analysis of each initiated or referred constitutional amendment, law, or question on the ballot.”

These include summaries of the measures, major arguments for and against each of them and what fiscal impact the measures may have.

There are 14 statewide measures on the ballot in 2024, ranging from tax proposals to creating a ranked-choice voting system for statewide elections.

14 statewide initiatives included on Colorado’s November ballot

The booklets also have performance evaluation information about judges who will appear on the ballot for retention.

The state booklets have been sent out since 1954, and have historically been sent out on years when general elections are held in the state. These general elections are held every two years on even-numbered years.

While this is usually the case, the booklets have been sent out every year since 2018, including years when general elections were not held.

How to register to vote or update voter registration in Colorado

The booklets are printed in both English and Spanish. In 2024, the booklets are 244 pages long, with 122 pages in English and 122 pages in Spanish.

The booklets were sent out to voters starting Sept. 11, and ballots will be sent out starting Oct. 11 .

Ours came today and went straight into the recycle can. Most of these things will sit on someone's table, shelf, on top of the fridge and never touched until December. Ridiculous waste of time & ...$$$, our tax $$$ that could have done so much more.
