    Grass fire reported on Pawnee National Grassland near shooting area

    DENVER ( KDVR ) — Crews responded to a several-hundred-acre grass fire on the Pawnee National Grasslands on Sunday evening.

    According to the U.S. Forest Service for the Pawnee National Grasslands, the fire is near the Baker Draw Shooting Area. The area is in Weld County, northeast of Ault.

    The fire’s initial size was reported at 1,300 acres and moving northwest.

    As of about 6 p.m., there were four Forest Service engines, one hand crew and two single-engine air tankers responding to the fire. It’s unclear when or if the fire was contained Sunday.
