DENVER ( KDVR ) — It took three years for a couple to build their Aspen home into a $30 million property. Now, they’re putting “Sage Ridge” up for sale , and they plan to do the construction process all over again.
Sellers Peter McGrath and his wife, Janet Fox, met at JCPenney where McGrath was the former executive vice president of private brands and Fox was the company’s former senior vice president of sourcing. After retiring and marrying, the pair are on a different path.
According to listing agent Ann Abernethy of Compass Real Estate , the reconstruction of the multi-million dollar home was no small feat. Abernethy said the place was on the market for several years because major renovations were needed, but in 2020, she sold the couple the property for $2.3 million.
When the couple purchased the property, it was a two-bedroom home with debris all over. Abernethy said there was even an old railroad caboose and a metal sculpture of an airplane on the land.
It took months to knock down the existing property. Then, the couple began building with the help of Aspen-based architect Luis Menendez.
Here’s a look inside:
The property spans roughly 38 acres in Old Snowmass and overlooks the Elk Mountain Range and the Snowmass Valley from Mt. Sopris to the Continental Divide. The view can be seen around the house from the inside out.
On the inside, Abernethy said there are almost a million dollars’ worth of 16-foot windows overlooking the mountains. On the outside, there are four ponds and a waterfall.
The house also comes with a sauna made out of Aspen wood along with a steam shower in the primary bedroom. The rest of the house is filled with a gym, media room and office.
While the couple just finished renovating and put it on the market less than a week ago, Abernethy said they wanted to sell the home because they loved the building process and wanted to do the same thing nearby.
