DENVER ( KDVR ) — Police are searching for multiple suspects after a shooting at the Ivy Crossing apartment complex on Tuesday night.

At around 9:30 p.m., deputies responded to a disturbance at the apartment complex in the 2300 block of South Quebec Street. The apartment is in Denver’s Goldsmith neighborhood near Aurora.

Deputies said shots were fired and multiple other agencies responded, including the Aurora Police Department, Denver Police Department, South Metro Fire Rescue and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

FOX31’s Greg Nieto was live at the scene shortly after the shooting. The sheriff’s office said one person was shot. Initially, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office public information officer said the suspect died but provided an update later and said they were at the hospital in serious condition.

The sheriff’s office said they are searching for four suspects but did not release any identifying information. Deputies believe this is an isolated incident.

Apartment complex has history of problems

As of Tuesday night, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office did not know whether the shooting had any connection to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.

However, Ivy Crossing has been a troubled apartment complex for at least two years. In May 2022, residents reported they were living in the apartments for weeks without gas . Apartment management and Xcel Energy were reportedly slow to provide help or answers.

Then, in April 2023, residents fled from a deadly fire where fire alarms were reportedly not sounding. FOX31 investigated the complex and found multiple code violations had been documented by South Metro Fire Rescue before the blaze.

In August, Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputies arrested six people at that complex on a variety of charges, ranging from drugs to stolen vehicles. Four of the arrested individuals were connected to Tren de Aragua.

The sheriff’s office told FOX31’s Courtney Fromm in early September that the Ivy Crossing Apartments were not a safety concern, but the investigation was ongoing. The arrests were made during “proactive policing” in the area.
