DENVER ( KDVR ) — The father of the 14-year-old who is accused of shooting a Federales bouncer was arrested on claims that he helped his son escape a warrant for his arrest, among other charges.

The Denver Police Department released the affidavit and arrest warrant for Steven Joseph Marquez, Sr., 46, who police said is the father of the suspect who was arrested after an almost-week-long search in July.

Police arrested Marquez on Sept. 27 on two charges of accessory to a crime and a charge of an attempt to influence a public servant.

On July 10,  Denver police said a fight broke out outside of Federales, a restaurant in the River North Art District. William “Todd” Kidd, who worked there as a bouncer, stepped in to intervene and was shot. He was taken to the hospital and later died from his injuries.

According to the affidavit, detectives called the suspect’s father, Marquez, who said the last time he saw his son was the night after the shooting.

Police told Marquez there was an active arrest warrant for his son, and Marquez said he was going to pick his son up from Thornton and turn him in. Then, the affidavit said Marquez hung up and turned off his phone.

Marquez called the police station the next day and said he’d turn in his son after they spoke with a news station as there was a video of the incident “that the world needs to see,” according to the affidavit.

Both conversations led detectives to believe Marquez knew where his son was and was in contact with him. After detectives obtained a search warrant for Marquez’s phone, it showed his phone was traveling north on Interstate 25 into Casper, Wyoming before heading back to Denver.

Soon after, the teen was arrested in Casper almost a week after the shooting.

The affidavit said Marquez was in contact with a relative who lived in Wyoming and detectives believe that Marquez didn’t turn his son in and helped him escape to Wyoming.

Marquez’s bail is set at $2,000.
