Denver weather: High temperature Saturday breaks 27-year record

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver weather has been breaking heat records all year long, and on Saturday yet another record was broken.

This summer was the second-hottest summer ever recorded in Denver history. Normally, summer temperatures average around 72 degrees, but this year temperatures averaged at 75 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Through the fall, Denver is still breaking records. September 2024 was the hottest September in Denver weather history. On Wednesday, Oct. 2, Denver set a new record high of 89 degrees .

Saturday brought more summer-like heat, along with a breeze and dry conditions prompting a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day due to increased fire danger.

Previously, the record high temperature for Oct. 5 was 86 degrees, set in 1997. Saturday afternoon, that record was broken — the National Weather Service recorded 87 degrees at the Denver International Airport. The normal high temperature for Oct. 5 is 70 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to cool to the lower 80s for the next week, which is still plenty above the typical high temperatures of 68-71 degrees.

Despite the unseasonably warm temperatures, Pinpoint Weather meteorologist Travis Michels said Denver won’t miss out on the fall weather , it will just be later in the season.
