Will Denver be able to see Monday’s meteor shower despite lingering smoke?

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Despite the smoke moving through Colorado at the beginning of the week, the Denver metro will still be able to see some of the meteor showers on Monday night.

The Draconid shower’s peak in Denver will be on Monday night and into the early morning hours of Tuesday morning when the Pinpoint Weather team said there could be around 10 meteors per hour. In rare instances, EarthSky said it can produce as many as hundreds of meteors per hour.

To increase your chances of seeing the shower, the Pinpoint Weather team recommends looking between the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper at the Draco the Dragon constellations to see the show.

While the skies are expected to be hazy from the smoke, the Pinpoint Weather team said the skies should be clear enough to see some of the meteor showers.

Forecast for Draconid meteor shower in Denver

There is lasting smoke in the air from an out-of-state wildfire mostly coming from the Yellow Lake Fire in Utah as well as some in Wyoming and Idaho, according to the National Weather Service .

The Pinpoint Weather team said that while there will be lingering smoke at night, much of this smoke is in the eastern part of the state. In Denver specifically, there will be moderate to extreme smoke throughout the night, but the team said it shouldn’t cover the sky completely and there should be enough visibility to see the meteor shower.

Monday reached a high of 82 degrees, with overnight lows in the 40s. Overnight, low temperatures will fall to the upper 40s.

There’s no rain on the forecast if you’re heading out to see some stars, but bring a jacket as there will be light winds and cooler temperatures once the sun goes down.
