DENVER (KDVR) — Nearly seven months after an 18-year-old was shot and killed at a Commerce City house party, his friends and family still look for closure in his murder.

“He was a playful kid. Fun, loveable, like any kid,” said Jeanna Hoch, a family friend of Shiloh Bennett’s.

Hoch had known Bennett since he was around nine or 10. A good kid, she says, with dreams of making music.

“He had a studio in his house and that was just his passion,” said Hoch.

Unfortunately, those dreams were taken away in March when he was killed at a house party. It’s a day Hoch remembers sadly.

“Saying no, no, no, over and over,” said Hoch.

More than half a year later, Commerce City Police still have no one in custody for the murder and Bennett’s friends and family have been unable to move forward.

“There hasn’t been a moment of peace as far as dealing with Shiloh’s passing,” said Hoch.

Hoch is trying to make the most of it. She said she has talked with state legislators, hoping to put a law in place that would hold house party hosts more responsible for guest safety.

“If they treat their home like an event establishment, they need to also have the same kind of security measures and occupancy limits,” said Hoch.

She hopes someone will come forward to the police to help bring justice to the Bennett family.

“Somebody does know something,” she said. “Somebody came with the killer to the party. Somebody left the party with the killer. Somebody knows who the killer is and has spoken to the killer about the murder, I’m sure of it.”

Commerce City police said that they have recently requested that Crime Stoppers both repost and increase the reward for information about Bennett’s murder.
