DENVER ( KDVR ) — During an enforcement period this weekend, the Colorado State Patrol arrested seven drivers in Douglas and Arapahoe counties on suspicion of driving under the influence.

CSP said troopers increased patrols from Friday to Sunday in the two counties and focused on deterring impaired driving on major streets and feeder roads. An increased presence was also added to the area around the Great American Beer Festival venue.

On Monday, CSP said troopers were directly involved in making 49 traffic stops which led to seven DUI-related arrests. According to CSP, three of the people arrested were previous DUI offenders.

While troopers made several traffic stops, CSP said there were no DUI-related crashes in the area over the weekend.

Since 2020, Douglas and Arapahoe County have had 67 deadly crashes and 331 crashes that resulted in serious injuries, according to CSP.

“That’s 67 families who have been devastated by the loss of a loved one and at least 331 others who have suffered serious trauma, some life-altering. Most of these incidents occurred on Thursday and Friday evenings,” said CSP in a press release.

CSP is encouraging drivers to report suspected impaired driving by pulling over and calling *CSP (277), 911 or 719-589-5807.
