DENVER ( KDVR ) — Coors Brewery in Golden, known for the birthplace of Coors beer, is finally unveiling its multi-year revamp of the historic brewery.

Coors Brewery opened in the 1800s . According to the website, it started with Adolph Coors, who brought a brewer’s yeast from Germany to ferment his beers in Golden. Since then, the iconic spot has survived Prohibition, numerous wars and the Great Depression.

Here’s where Golden actually got its name from

After almost 150 years in business, Molson Coors Beverage Company broke ground on the multiyear project in 2020 to modernize the facility. While the historic brewery has given a few looks into the construction in Golden, not much else was shared by 2022, except that the project would be done in 2024.

Now, after more than two million work hours, renovations are almost complete, and FOX31 got a look inside.

The company said they invested hundreds of millions of dollars into completing a 200,000-square-foot project that ultimately places the facility as one of the world’s most efficient breweries. The company said it updated the filtration, fermenting and aging capabilities in the brewery, saving an expected 80 million gallons of water annually and reducing energy use.

Meanwhile, it also serves some of the most renowned Molson Coors brands. The company said it was designed to make beers including Coors Light and Coors Banquet, Miller Lite, Miller High Life and Blue Moon Belgian White.

While the project is expected to be completed in 2025, the company said the facility is operational, and its first beers recently entered the market.
